Introduction

Rivers, seas and oceans have always been very important to people. They provide food such as fish and other seafood. Many towns and cities are built near to rivers. This is because they provide people with water. People are also attracted to the floodplains and deltas because the fertile land are suitable for crop cultivation. People also use rivers to irrigate their land by building dams across rivers. Dams are built across fast-flowing rivers to generate hydroelectric power, which generate electricity. Water from rivers is also used in industry to make goods and to cool machine. Along sheltered coasts, the calm conditions of the seas and oceans are favourable for the development of large harbours. Hence, many ports can be found long such coasts. Rivers, seas and oceans can also be used to transport goods and people. Other than that, many recreational activities like fishing, diving and canoeing are also popular along river and coast. Colourful fishes can also be put in aquariums and this can give entertainment to people. Singapore also use water for many uses such as drinking water, to generating electricity through dams, for its industrial needs, as a form of transportation and for entertainment such as the Sea World, which need a lot of water for its large aquariums to store fishes and other marine lives.
Water is a very important element in our lives. If water pollution happens in Singapore, we all will be affected greatly, both our health and the environment around us. When water pollution happens, it will be hard to stop it, however, we can prevent water pollution by moving out activities that can cause water pollution. The Government can also make the law stricter for those who cause water pollution.
